A great night out in Glasgow at the Hilton Hotel, but sadly we went home without a trophy! We've enjoyed two years on the trot of winning awards for the Barn Bar so I guess it can't go on for ever.

Fingers crossed our loyal locals and Cologin guests will nominate us for something next year - there's definitely room on the mantelpiece for another award. It's a lovely feeling being a finalists but it's much better being a winner!

This nomination was a first for us. And next year we hope to have our mug shots on the front page of the Dram!

This very odd Spring weather has obviously gone to my head! From snow to sunshine in less than 24 hours but today's blue skies hint at something warmer for the next few weeks. Let's hope so - I've packed away my winter woolies.

Snow at the end of April - what ever next!
So to celebrate we're offering a £100 MAY DAY saving on any week's stay in any property at Cologin booked in the next month.

Use voucher code ZE9W0 online or quote the voucher code if you are booking by phone. The voucher will expire at the end of May so get booking today and save £100.

Benjie the Borrow Dog!

Should Benjie have his own Facebook page??? He is certainly an important part of Cologin and so many of our customers have had the pleasure (?) of his company as they walk their own dogs around the hills above the site. For those without pets of their own, Benjie is quick to offer his services as a borrow dog - he does not wait to be asked and will simply follow with a wag of his tail and a big grin. And it's not just our customers - Benjie is equally well known to guests staying at Lagnakeil and to Oban locals.

Of course we love him, we just hope you do too!

Benjie loves company - canine or human!

Happy New Year!

It's been a while since I have blogged (feels like a confession) but in my defense it has been a very busy season and Cologin has been going through many changes which we will share with you over the coming months. The first and very exciting news is that Donnie and Mary Macleod (our mother and son team behind the success of the Barn Bar) have decided to take on full responsibility for running the business as a separate profit centre so we can take a step back and return to the front of the bar where we belong!

The Barn Bar is currently closed for staff holidays and will reopen on Friday 23rd January with our annual Burns Supper on the 24th January and the local musicians jam session on Sunday 25th January. From then on the Barn will be open at the weekends only until March. If Donnie and Mary are making any major changes to the opening times we will update our website and post on Facebook/BarnBarLerags
We are thrilled to have this pair of Hebridean islanders (both are from Harris in the Outer Hebrides) running the bar for us and we wish them well for a successful year. Donnie lives at Cologin with his partner Keith who will also be reopening the original Cologin Farm Shop this summer.Keith is a talented fashion designer and he's looking at selling a range of Harris Tweed cushion covers and other craft items as well as Mary's delicious shortbread, pickles and other home made goodies.

This year is also a significant one for us personally as Jim and I celebrate 25 years of marriage and our youngest twin girls have their 21st birthdays (albeit on different days) so we won't have any 'children' left in our family of five! Naomi and Jemma are both in 3rd year at Aberdeen - Naomi at Rorbert Gordon University and Jemma at the University of Aberdeen. (Their elder sister Katie graduated last year from Aberdeen and is working locally in Fort William for Highland Wood Energy.) Naomi heads off to the US in March for a 7 month placement at Waccabuc Country club in New York State and her twin sister is determined to visit. I think we might all have to cross the pond at least once this year!

We have just returned home after a family skiing holiday - ironically there was very little snow in Italy but plenty when we got back to Scotland! Unfortunately gale force winds just now so even though Glencoe is a sure bet for skiing the lifts won't be open, so no access to the mountain!

BTW: FREE wi-fi in the lodges is now offered in 24 hour chunks after which time you are returned to the log in page. Of course if you require unlimited wi-fi access you can still log in and create an account - £3 per day, £10 per week or £15 per month.
